The Gift of Togetherness during the Holidays!

The holidays are a time for joy, family, and—if we’re honest—a few “I’m bored!” moments from the kids. Between long school breaks and chilly weather, it’s easy for little ones to feel restless. But with a dash of creativity, the season can become a time of learning and family fun.

Keep kids learning, laughing, and busy this holiday season with these fun and educational activities!

📚  Create a Family Reading Adventure

Turn reading into a shared family tradition. Choose a holiday-themed picture book or a chapter series everyone will love. Make it cozy: build a reading fort, light a candle, and sip cocoa while you take turns reading aloud.

Let each child pick a book for “Family Reading Night.”

🔬 Explore Holiday Science Experiments

Add some “wow” to winter break with easy science experiments! Try these fun ideas:

  • Melting Snowman Science: Watch what happens when you sprinkle salt or pour warm water on snow.

  • Candy Cane Chemistry: Place candy canes in different liquids (water, vinegar, oil) and predict which will dissolve fastest.

These hands-on projects encourage curiosity, observation, and discovery.

🍪 Bake and Learn in the Kitchen

Holiday baking doubles as a mini math and science lab. Measuring ingredients teaches fractions, while mixing and baking spark lessons about chemistry and change.

Ask curious questions like:

  • “How do we adjust the recipe to cut it in half?”

  • “Why does dough rise?”

🌲Take a Winter Nature Walk

Bundle up for a holiday scavenger hunt! Look for pinecones, bird tracks, or icicles. Discuss how animals stay warm or where they find food in winter.

Bring home small treasures for crafts like pinecone ornaments or nature art.

🧩 Build a Family Puzzle Challenge

Choose a large puzzle and make it a multi-day family project. Working together strengthens patience, teamwork, and focus.

🎭 Host a Movie or Theater Night

Encourage creativity and confidence with a family performance night! Kids can write a short play or act out a favorite story. Use old clothes as costumes, make tickets, and invite family members (in person or via video call).

Take turns choosing a movie to view. Wear your pajamas and cuddle with a blanket.

This builds storytelling skills, imagination, and teamwork.

Have Fun and Make the Holidays Meaningful!
